Derek's Nomads Journey

Derek became a Nomad in 1994 when he Joined Western Province Nomads in Cape Town in. During his membership years he played in some 60 plus games and continued playing many of his games after having moved to the UK and then Cyprus, combining his monthly games with business trips to the country. During those years Derek also participated in a number of National tournaments including various ones in South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Australia. He was also a sponsor of the Zimbabwe Nomads National tournaments for a number of years. After moving to Australia, Derek enquired as to why there was no Nomads club in Melbourne and was subsequently asked to lead the setting up of a new Club in Melbourne. The Melbourne club began a few invitational games from May 2026 and although still small in numbers compared to other clubs in Australia, its membership is growing steadily.
